Piece count is a literal count
A grinder's piece count is the number of parts it comes apart into, and each part does one job. It is not a quality rating, and a higher number is not automatically better — it is a different object.
A two-piece is a lid and a chamber with teeth: material goes in, gets ground, stays put. A three-piece adds a screen and a chamber below it, so ground material falls through and is collected separately. A four-piece adds a further chamber under the screen that catches the fine material which passes through.
Ours is four-piece: the 40mm 4-Piece Zinc Alloy Grinder, machined from zinc alloy with a textured grip band, a grinding chamber, a screen, a collection chamber and a plastic scraper in the box.

Diameter, and why 40mm is the common answer
Grinder diameter sets both capacity and leverage. A wider grinder holds more and is easier to turn, because your fingers are further from the centre; a narrower one is more pocketable and harder to twist.
40mm — about an inch and a half — is the size most people settle on. It is large enough to turn comfortably with two fingers and small enough to disappear into a pocket. Ours is 40mm in silver-finish zinc alloy.
Material matters mainly for how the teeth wear. Zinc alloy is heavier than aluminium and cheaper than titanium, which is why it is the usual middle choice.
Reading a paper booklet
Four things are printed on a booklet of rolling papers and all four are literal.
Size names a standard. King Size Slim is the long, narrow format — the most widely used size, and what ours are. Material names what the paper is made from: hemp, rice, wood pulp. Ours are hemp. Gum names the adhesive along the edge; natural Arabic gum is the traditional choice and what ours use. Bleaching says whether chlorine was used to whiten the paper; ours are made without it.
The Everything 420 booklet we stock carries 32 King Size Slim ultra thin hemp papers with tips included. Tips in the pack is worth checking for, because a booklet without them means a second purchase.

Hemp, rice and wood pulp
Hemp paper is the middle option on almost every axis: a little more textured than rice, a little easier to handle than the thinnest papers, and widely available. Rice paper is thinner and smoother and takes more practice. Wood pulp is the thickest and most forgiving, and the least used by people who have tried the others.
We stock the hemp option only. The rice and unbleached variants of this same paper exist; they are not carried here, and the product page says so rather than leaving you to guess.
Buying both
These are the two cheapest items in the shop, and between them they are what flower needs to become usable, since flower is sold by weight and arrives as buds. Everything 420 prices its papers at a number it chose on purpose, which you will spot on the product page.
Common questions
What does a 4-piece grinder do that a 2-piece doesn't?
It separates. A four-piece has a screen and a chamber beneath it, so ground material drops clear of the teeth and the finest material is collected separately. A two-piece keeps everything with the teeth.
